Gutenfelssteig with panorama trail and old town Kaub: duration approx. 1.5 hours

Start and finish: Blücher monument on the Rhine

Public transport: Deutsche Bundesbahn daily at hourly intervals

Refreshment stops: Hotels and inns in Kaub

Route: The hike starts at the Blücher Monument, which is an important cultural feature of the town of Kaub, along with the water level tower and the pilot square at the ferry. Here the Alte Amtshaus (core building from 1325), today a youth hostel, blends harmoniously into the townscape.

On the left side of the youth hostel begins the Gutenfelssteig, which leads through the newly planted vineyard site "Gutenfels". Information boards along the cultural trail provide information on geography, viticulture, the history of Kaub with its old fortified towers and Gutenfels Castle. Wonderful views of the town of Kaub and the customs castle Pfalzgrafenstein reward the effort.

The path passes the vineyards "Blüchertal" and "Rauschelay". The unique Rhine Valley panorama with Schönburg Castle in Oberwesel provides an unforgettable impression of the natural and cultural landscape in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.

In the old town of Kaub, you will pass the market square with the double church of St. Trinitatis and St. Nikolaus, which houses two denominations under one roof. Here begins the historic town center with the still walkable town wall, which was built in 1275 to protect the Rhine front.

Through the Metzgergasse, past the former headquarters of Field Marshal Blücher in the winter of 1813/14 (a visit to the museum is worthwhile) you will reach the Zollplatz and the destination of the circular walk.
