The Old Cemetery, which opened in 1822, was transformed into a publicly accessible citizen park starting in 1976. More than 100 grave and memorial stones still tell the story of the turbulent history of this special memorial site.
The Old Cemetery between Rochusallee and Holzhauserstraße (formerly known as "Mittelpfad") was opened in 1822. Initially, it was still located outside the city and had to be expanded several times. The last burials are documented for the year 1920. Almost 60 years later, from 1976 onwards, the cemetery was transformed into a publicly accessible citizens' park. To this day, more than 100 partly extremely impressive grave and memorial stones bear witness to the eventful history of this place of remembrance.
