Bürgerpark Alter Friedhof
Holzhauserstraße 10, 55411 Bingen am Rhein
The Old Cemetery, opened in 1822, was transformed into a publicly accessible park for citizens in 1976. More than 100 graves and memorial stones continue to tell the changing history of this special place of remembrance.
The Old Cemetery between Rochusallee and Holzhauserstraße (formerly called "Mittelpfad") was opened in 1822. Initially, it was outside the city and had to be expanded several times. The last burials are recorded for the year 1920. Almost 60 years later, from 1976 onwards, the cemetery was redesigned as a publicly accessible people's park. To this day, more than 100 partly extremely impressive grave and memorial stones testify to the eventful history of this place of remembrance.
