Idyllic views at every turn

Amidst towers and battlements – Hiking from castle to castle.

The hiking trail, which is definitely quite challenging, offers you the chance to experience this unique natural and cultural landscape at every turn. Pull on your hiking boots and step back in time to discover numerous Rhenish architectural masterpieces dating from the Middle Ages up to the 19th century. Many of the formidable fortified castles with their towers and battlements are open to the public and are just waiting to be explored.

Alpine Thrills on the Middle Rhine

Suspended between earth and sky, you’ll experience alpine thrills on the edge of steep cliffs, surrounded by outcrops of rugged slate. At the end of your strenuous ascents to dizzying heights – which require good physical condition and sure-footedness – you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views from the plateaus above the Middle Rhine valley.

Why is it so fine down by the Rhine?

The Middle Rhine Valley, one of Germany’s most famous wine-growing regions, stretches from Bingen to Bonn, following the route of the trail almost exactly. Wander through the steep, sun-drenched vineyards of the Middle Rhine valley and savour their golden wines. The estate taverns and seasonal Strausswirtschaften, where winegrowers serve their own Middle Rhine wines, invite you to stop and enjoy local specialities from the winery kitchen.
