Burg Reichenberg

Burg Reichenberg, 56357 Reichenberg

Even if it’s relatively unknown nationwide due to its position in Hasenbachtal, Reichenberg Castle is one of the most important and most unusual castle complexes in the whole of Rhineland Palatinate.

Although rather unknown on a regional level due to its location in the Hasenbachtal, Burg Reichenberg is one of the most significant and unusual castle complexes in all of Rhineland-Palatinate.
It boasts remarkable structural substance, and many aspects of late medieval castle construction can be read from this monument dating back to the early 14th century. Especially the defining, mannerist shield wall with its formerly unusually tall flanking towers - the northern one only collapsed about 40 years ago - represents a peculiarity in late medieval castle construction.
Still preserved to this day, the hall building with its ceiling resting on cube capitals testifies to the high level of representation of the complex. Thus, the builders, Count Wilhelm I of Katzenelnbogen and his son Wilhelm II, created an architectural highlight with the venerable shield wall castle.

The castle is privately owned and can currently only be viewed from the outside.
