Unique in the Rhine Valley: The dyke in Neuwied
For nearly 80 years, it has protected the people of Neuwied from the floods of the Rhine. The 5-meter high and 500-meter long dyke in downtown Neuwied is part of a 7.5-kilometer long flood protection system that was completed in 1931 following devastating floods.
On the 500-meter long dyke in front of the city center, there are a gauge tower and "dyke crown" (distinctive landmarks) as well as a statue of Mayor Robert Krups, the initiator of the dyke construction.
