Hügelgrab „Dachsbau“

Oberstraße 10, 55422 Bacharach

The "Dachsbau" is one of the largest of 254 registered burial mounds in the district of Mainz-Bingen with a diameter of about 30 meters.

Body burials under tumuli prevailed in the Middle Bronze Age from 1600 to about 1200 BC. This period is also called the barrow period. The badger burrow is barely visible today as a tree-covered, uneven mound next to the forest road. As with many other burial mounds in the region, experts recognize here the traces of a search cut. Many burial mounds have been opened to recover grave goods. However, it is not known who was digging at the Badger Mound. The site of the barrow is located west of Breitscheid near the road to Erbach, about 1.5 kilometers north of Erbach.
