North of the Bingen city center, where the Klopp Castle towers, lies the banks of the Rhine, which was transformed into the vibrant, blooming “Cultural Shore” as part of the State Garden Show 2008. On the 3 km long riverside promenade – from the ferry landing at the harbor to the Rhine-Nahe corner – walkers are accompanied by a lush sea of flowers on one side and dreamy views on the other. A splendid view opens up on the vineyards of the Rheingau with the mighty Germania of the Niederwald monument near Rüdesheim. Additionally, the ship landing stages are the ideal starting point for boat trips to the world-famous Loreley.

Further west, the path passes the historic former power station from 1898 near the mouth of the Nahe, which today houses the Historical Museum am Strom, whose exhibits make the history of the city of Bingen and the era of Rhine Romanticism tangible and focus especially on Saint Hildegard of Bingen.

Below the mouth of the Nahe, at the confluence of the Rhine and Nahe, the park at the Mouse Tower follows – a perfect invitation for a cozy picnic on the green meadow. While trees provide plenty of cool shade and colorful flowerbeds exude wonderful scents, natural bank zones serve as retreats for endangered animal and plant species. A skate park, beach volleyball and basketball courts, as well as a large water playground make the park a popular destination and meeting place, especially during the holidays.

In direct proximity, the landmark and namesake of this idyll rises on its own rocky island in the current: the Bingen Mouse Tower. It marks the entry of the Rhine into the narrow, rocky UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
