Built in 1948, this was the location of the Bingen pilots until 1974 when the expansion of the Middle Rhine took place. The pilot house served as an order station and a place for the Bingen pilots' association to stay. It was constantly occupied during the day. Orders from shipping companies, mail, and telegrams were delivered to passing ships by boat before the era of modern communication.

Today, the Bingen Schifferverein 1895 e.V. operates the house as a pilot museum.
