Niederburger Heide
K93, 55432 Neiderburg
The Niederburger Heide above Oberwesel is a diverse habitat with changing plant communities and different soils. Sheep and regular maintenance keep the open heath landscape, which lies directly on the Traumschleife Mittelrhein.
Above Oberwesel, the Niederburger Heath stretches out behind the edge of the slope. A part of the ten-hectare area is maintained as a biotope. Walkers and hikers enjoy the mix of plants that color the area vibrantly. To preserve the diversity of flora and fauna, the heath is regularly cleared of bushes. This is usually done by sheep that graze on the meadows and fields, and sometimes vehicles are used for mulching. Every square meter of the protected areas changes throughout the year, which is favored by the different types of soil (rock, stones, clay, sand).
