Pub at the Lahn river
Lahnstraße 8, 56112 Lahnstein
The tavern by the Lahn!
The customs tower of the Electors of Trier, a medieval solid construction with a rounded narrow front, was built starting in 1348. The inn is a three-story half-timbered building with a stone ground floor from the year 1697, and the pavilion-like half-timbered structure dates back to 1741. The inn is also known, famous, and infamous for the song "Die Wirtin an der Lahn," which dates back to the 17th century. Today, about 750 verses are known, to which more are still being added. On July 18, 1774, Goethe left the ship during his journey on the Lahn to have lunch here with Lavater and Basedow and also to invent a verse.
