From 09.05.2025 until the 15.06.2025
Ausstellung "Stille Weiten"
Hans-Arp-Allee 1, 53424 Remagen
The large-format photographs of landscapes, bodies of water, mountains and glaciers created since the 1990s form a focal point of the exhibition. The artist himself describes these as imagined landscapes. As a former student of Bernd and Hilla Becher, he is an important representative of the Düsseldorf School of Photography.
Axel Hütte travelled to all continents for his photographs. He waits a long time at a carefully selected location before capturing his motif with a plate camera. The deserted images have no narrative structures. Water surfaces, reflections and mist are transformed into abstract structures that oscillate between sharpness and blurriness and invite meditative contemplation. Four of Axel Hütte's video works, which are being shown together for the first time, also tie in with this. With their experimental design, electronic music and sound compositions, they open up contemplative spaces.
The exhibition, created in close collaboration with the artist, brings together 36 works from the years 1997 to 2024, for which the internationally renowned architecture and design firm sauerbruch hutton has developed a finely tuned colour scheme.
