From 18.09.2026 until the 21.09.2026
onion market
Koblenzer Str. 39, 53498 Bad Breisig
From September 18 to 21, 2026, Bad Breisig invites you to the traditional "Zwibbelsmaat". Visitors can expect market activities, music, carnival, culinary offerings, and entertainment for the whole family.
Tradition with History
The roots of the "Zwibbelsmaat" date back to the Middle Ages. Since that time, a particle of the Holy Cross has been displayed for veneration in the parish community on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The market vendors followed the pilgrims – thus the traditional Breisiger "Zwibbelsmaat" was born.
This year, around 100 merchants will provide a diverse range of offerings. From knife sharpening stones, woolen socks, and broom handles to the traditional onion sack, there is much to discover that is rarely found in regular stores.
New Market and Carnival Area
This year, the market stalls will be located riverside along Rheinstraße and Rheinpromenade up to the Kurpark. The paths in the Kurpark and areas of the city center will also be included in the market activities. The carnival moves to the Kurpark.
In the Biergasse, there will also be a table flea market.
The volunteer fire department and the DRK have a new common meeting point at Zehnerstraße 16a. Drinks, a program, and the DRK’s popular freshly baked potato pancakes will be available on all four days.
An exciting supporting program with live music, Guggen music, walking acts, and offers for children and families invites you to linger in Bad Breisig.
