A proud two hundred years of construction work, lasting until the present day: St Martin’s Catholic Church in Lorch began to take shape in 1270.

A proud two hundred years of construction work, lasting until the present day: St Martin’s Catholic Church in Lorch began to take shape in 1270. Its high altar, created by Hans von Worms in 1483, is important in terms of art history. It was Germany’s first carved monochrome altar and the largest of its kind in the German-speaking world. The eight-hundred-year-old choir stalls, font from 1464 and remains of choir stalls by Erhard Falkener are also of interest. The ‘Riesling stop’ in St Martin’s organ is said to be unique in the world: when you pull out the ‘Riesling 2f’ stop a secret door opens, to the accompaniment of loud bird song, revealing two bottles of Riesling and wine glasses.
